Is the g-spot real? It seems like a mystical, magical spot that people only say exists, but does it really?

While every vulva-owner’s vagina is made different and responds to different stimuli, the general consensus seems to be that the g-spot does exist - at least for most women.

I recently had a friend (thanks, Irish Hammer) describe finding the g-spot in a way that I thought was both incredibly comical and yet spot on from what I’ve read/heard/experienced when it comes to this anatomical location: apple pie vs. pecan. Most of the inside of the vagina is warm, wet, and fairly smooth (juicy if you will - hence, like apple pie); however, when you explore the suggested location of the g-spot (putting two fingers inside (about 2 knuckles deep)), facing upwards (so you can stroke the top of the inside of the vagina) and perform a “come here” motion, the texture feels slightly different - a bit ridgy, much like that of a pecan.

However you want to conceptualize the feeling, the reality is that many vagina owners enjoy having their g-spot stimulated and find that it can lead to outcomes such as more powerful orgasms, squirting, and increased pleasure during intercourse. You can stimulate it with fast strokes, slow strokes, heavy, or light pressure - it all depends on your partner, so attuning to them and the feedback they provide around their experience will be incredibly helpful for enhancing the overall experience. There are also vibrators/dildos designed specifically to target the g-spot, though you won’t exactly get the “apple pie vs. pecan” metaphor without a personal touch.

If you find you or your partner are struggling to find the g-spot, there are workshops that can teach folks to find their or their partner’s(‘) g-spot (when we’re not in the midst of COVID times) as well as several books, videos, etc. that all provide additional insights to finding it (I personally recommend this book).

Something to be aware of with g-spot stimulation is the possibility of squirting. While not all vulva owners squirt, a fair amount are able to, so you probably want to put a towel underneath yourself (or your partner) while experimenting. When squirting, the individual typically feels like they have to pee, but never fear! As long as you urinate before trying, you can push through the sensation and allow the squirting to happen. While research is a bit mixed on this, most support that only a small amount of urine is in the liquid that comes from squirting.

So, the next time you go to explore the g-spot, see if you can’t find the pecan amidst the apple pie. Happy hunting!
